six deep-fried pork dumplings. they were cooked to a light golden brown. the inside was a paste of pork with several mashed vegetables but the pork taste was predominant, much like a pâté. in the dipping sauce, nutty-tasting sesame seeds provided additional flavor to the salty punch of the soy sauce.

vegetable tempura

the vegetables, with their light tempura coating, included tall, slim slices of carrots and cucumbers, florets of broccoli and onions. the dipping sauce accompanying them was a cold one, also made with soy sauce but quite different from the first. water was added and an anchovy taste was apparent although none was visible.
